New government website tracks planned public service job cuts

The federal government has launched a website tracking thousands of planned job cuts in the core public service under the ongoing spending review.

The tracker details planned cuts across two phases of the government’s “comprehensive expenditure review,” an effort to trim the public service by about 10 per cent of its peak headcount from 2023-2024.

In phase one, which took place between Dec. 1 and Dec. 10 of last year, public servants were notified of cuts at six departments and agencies, including Natural Resources Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
